Company Stamps, Rubber Stamps, Company Chops.... These are the common names that we used to call them. But, how do we actually call them?
Basically, there are 3 types of stamps that are commonly used in Singapore. The self-inking rubber stamp, Pre-inked rubber stamp, and the traditional rubber stamp.
Here's a simple chart that compares some of their characteristics.
A Self Inking Stamp automates the traditional rubber stamp by re-inking itself through its built-in ink pad. After each stamping, the rubber die retract back to position where it keeps contact with the ink pad. You can easily refill ink by dropping a few drop of liquid ink on the stamp pad or replace the entire ink pad. This is the most commonly sort after stamp as it is convenient and ready to use immediately after refill.
A Pre-Inked Stamp stores ink inside a reservoir. Your design is flashed onto a die plate inside the stamp. When pressed, the die plate allows the ink to flow through. You can only refill ink by pouring the same colour and type of oil-based ink into its reservoir. It takes a few hours after refilling for the next use.
A Traditional Stamp is the old school method where you press the stamp on the ink pad manually before making the impression. It gives you the ultimately flexibility to use any type of ink or color depending on your circumstances. However, it is messy to carry the traditional stamp around and inconvenient as the ink pad has to be brought separately.
Overall, each type of stamp has its own unique features and usefulness to its user. With some knowledge, you will be able to know which stamp you are more suitable for you.
